Our Vision

The built and natural environment of the Wyre Forest District provides an accessible, attractive, enjoyable, healthy and wildlife-rich place to be, now and in the future.  Biodiversity and heritage assets are protected and enhanced.  Our varied natural habitats and diverse landscapes are thriving, offering a range of outdoor interests, contributing to local educational opportunities and sustainable tourism.  Residents and businesses contribute to minimising climate change, through greater use of renewable energy sources and reducing waste.

Our priorities
  • To have cleaner, greener and safer public spaces
  • To reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impact of climate change
  • To reduce waste and increase re-use and recycling
  • To protect and improve Wyre Forest District's natural environment

These link to the following Local Area Agreement priorities:

  • To maximise the diversion of waste away from landfill through prevention, reuse, recycling/composting and recovery
  • To improve flood mitigation measures, and improve drainage
  • To increase energy efficiency and increase the proportion of energy generated from renewable sources

What are we doing?

There's a lot going on in this area, but the main initiative that WFM is involved in delivering is Warmer Worcestershire.  Read on for an overview or click on the link to go straight to the Warmer Worcestershire website

The Warmer Worcestershire project is aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the county by increasing energy efficiency in homes and businesses, particularly where high levels of heat loss are identified.  The project aims to encourage residents to insulate their homes in order to save money, reduce carbon emissions and ensure good health.

During cold, clear winter nights from November 2008 to March 2009, a company called Blue Sky carried out an aerial thermal imaging survey of Worcestershire. The data captured by the survey has been used to produce a thermal map of the entire county, enabling residents and businesses to see the amount of heat lost through the roofs of their properties.  We're promoting the map to residents across Worcestershire through the local media and events. Please note that some of the flying was done at weekends, so buildings that weren't occupied and had the heating turned off could show up as green.

In the second phase of the project, vulnerable residents, like the elderly and low income households, will be assisted with advice on grants to insulate their homes and other schemes to assist in paying their heating bills.

The project is being coordinated through the Worcestershire Partnership and brings together organisations responsible for local services, housing, energy advice and the environment.

The project is funded with an grant from Improvement and Efficiency West Midlands aimed at helping the Worcestershire Partnership tackle the really big issues in the county, like the reduction of carbon emissions and fuel poverty.  Warmer Worcestershire is helping deliver fuel poverty and climate change targets in Worcestershire's Local Area Agreement.
